Disconnecting the Chime
by Doohickie

I searched through the club's forums a bit and couldn't find anyone documenting how to do this, though lots of people complained about it. There's that chime that rings when your keys are in the ignition and the doors are open, or your seat belts are off or whatever. Anyway, every time it rings, I think, "No duh! I KNOW the door is open!" or whatever and curse the chime. So tonight, I climbed under my dash and found the cursed box. It took several minutes of DING-DONG-DING-DONG! before I could find the chime unit. Now that I've found it, and killed it, I want to share my good fortune with the club.

Procedure

The chime is the little gray metal box located between the steering column and the HVAC air handling box. This picture is taken from the brake pedal, looking up and toward the right side of the car:

To disable the chime, just depress the catch on the connector and pull it out:

I don't like any loose wires, so I tucked the connector up out of the way (make sure it's not against the moving portion of the steering column):

Enjoy the peace and quiet!
