Install side marker signal lights

What I used:
Amber side signal lights - Shark Racing (No longer Listed on their website)
First Step: Two square
holes in the outer fender ( 1 x 1 ½ " ) ... body shop job, not a DIY for me!
The Decision:
Once the holes were cut into the fenders it was a matter of deciding
how the signals were to be activated. The quick and simple way is to just wire them up to the front signals and then they
will flash on when the signals are turned on. But, what if I wanted them to flash off when the signals flash on. A couple
of normally closed relays will do that, they will open when the signal is turned on and turn off the side lights. But, that
means I would need a power supply to keep the side lights on.
That could be drawn from the front marker lights. But, with the
DLRs the side lights would be on all the time, what if I only wanted them on at night when the full lighting package was turned
on. I could draw power from the dash lights, but they dim, but not the ashtray light, but do I want to draw that much power
from the dash light circuit to run the sidelights. I could install another (or 2) normally open relays that are activated
by the dash lights and draw their own power from a battery circuit and then a SPDT switch from a hot wire to power them up
if I wanted to run the sidelights during the day.
Wait, K.I.S.S. I'll run the side signals from the front signals!
Where to run the wires to the front signals? Drill a hole in the inner fender and inset a grommet? Where will the hole come through the fender? Will it cut into something else? OK, run the wire straight up between the inner and outer fender.
Step 2: Remove the headlamp
assembly (3 screws, one plug) and the signal/marker light socket just twists out. (and the passenger side heat shield, if
still in place).
Step 3: Use the trusty coat-hanger
snake up the fender to the holes, tape the wires on and pull through to the front and connect the ground and hot wire (yellow
L, blue R).
Test before refitting headlamps.
Step 4: Snap side signal lights
into place and you're done.
And in a flash, you have side signals.
Good Luck on the project!
