Cruise Control Relocation for the Tuscani
Strut Bar
by Colin Guthrie
This DIY will allow you to use the OEM strut bar from the Korean version of the Tiburon, the
"Tuscani". Normally the cruise control interferes, but this will relocate it so the bar will fit.
Materials:
1 piece of 2 1/4 by 5 inch aluminum
Drill
3/8 inch drill bit
Extra bolts that screw into the existing holes.
Hacksaw
Grinder (optional)
The Project
1. The
cruise has to move over and down an inch and a half.
2. On the top of the tower is a slight lip that you want to scribe
on the aluminum in the position that the width is the longest and parallel to the firewall (preferably straight right and
left) like what you see here (notice the aluminum bracket installed is exactly how it should be).
As you are cutting it out double-check your measurements using the
cruise and lip each time with small sections being cut. Too much cutting will be dangerous. You will notice the lip on the
firewall is against the cruise, which is fine. It needs to be as close to the tower and the firewall lip as possible to fit
in the space that is available.
3. To drill the holes, figure out where the first hole should be,
mark it, double-check it, then drill it out. The second hole is easier because you can use the holes on the bracket on the
cruise to mark them in the right location.
Once the bracket is mounted to the tower, check the position of
the cruise location, which must be BELOW the new bracket, mark and drill those out.
HINT: I elongated my holes for some adjustments to both ends
of the new bracket.
4. Loosely bolt everything up. On the end which the cruise servo
mounts to the new bracket, use a flat bolt or screw with a nut, because it could get in the way of the strut bar bracket.
5. Tighten everything up and you are done. The two top bolts hold
the cruise securely and the lower bracket is not needed. You will notice as you start you car, some noise coming from the
cruise, which is the normal vibration it makes. a piece of split hose on the lip can make it quieter.
