I added a oil/water filter to the PCV line. Here's how I
did it: The PCV hose on the left is 5/16" on the valve cover side and 1/2"
on the intake manifold size. This 50' 3/8" compressor hose cost less than 6' of hose off the spool at the hardware store. It
comes in colors, too. Only 16" is needed here. If you don't need a new compressor hose (I did), you can use the barbed nipples
on the ends for this project. I added elbows to direct the barbed nippled toward the breather tube.
The mounting bracket will attach the filter to one of the engine cover screws. It was made from a Stanley 4" corner reinforcing
bracket. It was mounted to the filter with #10 self-tapping sheet metal screws after drilling one hole.
I put an S-bend in the bracket to drop it ~1/4". This was necessary in order to clear the engine cover bracket that it will be mounted to.
Here, you can see the entire installation. I used that 5/16" hose on the valve cover side and 3/8" hose on the intake manifold side. I used the original clamps on the engine connections because I had them. None were necessary on the filter connections.
The hoses cross the gap between the valve cover and intake manifold. The foam protector from the original hose was installed on the black hose to protect it from the screw it rests against. A piece of larger hose was split and installed on the blue hose to protect it from the cable bracket.
This is where the filter sits prior to reinstalling the Engine cover.
The filter nestles between the wiring harnesses and is held in place by the engine cover. Removing the cover allows the filter to be lifted for easy draining. All finished! - Bnystrom |
