Tools Required:

10mm Wrench or Socket

12mm Wrench or Socket

Hacksaw (for CAI Shortening) (read below in Step 2)

Step 1:

Disassembly of the Stock Intake

1.  Remove Plastic Engine Cover (5 bolts) (This gives easier access to small vacuum hose to be removed and replaced).

2.  Loosen 2 hose clamps (Parts #1471ED & 1471UD).

3.  Remove Heat Shield (Part#26220D) by removing 3 screws (Part #96590) and 1 nut from top of Air Filter Box (Part# 28111).

4.  Loosen Air Filter Box Fastening Clips (2).

5.  Remove Air Filter Box Lid (Part#28111) & Air Filter (Part#28113).

6.  Remove all air flow piping up to Intake Manifold & Remove Small Vacuum Hose.

7.  Loosen 3 screws (Part#28171K) from bottom of Air Filter Box (Part#29112).

8. Remove bottom part of Air Filter Box (Part#29112) by sliding it slightly to the left and then lifting out!

Step 2:

Installing the IEN Short Ram

Note: This CAI is for a 94 97 Honda Accord and came with two sections of pipe, a short piece and a longer piece. (I used the short piece only and it required cutting the pipe for clearance behind the battery)  If you wish to install the full blown CAI (both pipes) you will have to fabricate a install method of your own.

  1. Use hacksaw and trim approx. 2" off the end of the pipe (where the filter is attached) (You can now rough fit to see if you have clearance for the filter to sit just behind the battery).

  2. Lightly sand edges of pipe to remove any metal burrs.

  3. Attach supplied vacuum hose to engine side.

  4. Grab 1 supplied hose clamp and rubber sleeve.

  5. Slip the rubber sleeve onto the throttle body and fasten it using the hose clamp.

  6. At this point you can grab your air filter and install it on the end of your intake pipe. Fasten it securely using a hose clamp.

  7. Take the throttle body end of your pipe and loosely slip a hose clamp over the end, and feed the pipe into the rubber sleeve and work it in until you are tight up against the throttle body. Fasten the pipe securely in the rubber sleeve with the filter at your desired  position and ensure you maintain a tight fit against the throttle body while tightening the hose clamp.  (If you have a helping hand, now is the time to use it!  This can be done alone, but is easier if someone else can hold the pipe up tight while you tighten the clamp).

  8. Take the other open end of the vacuum tube and slip it onto the male receptacle on the side of your CAI pipe.

  9. For my install as you can see in the picture, I have the bottom edge of the filter resting on the engine mount. Its OK.  No harm to be done!  The kit came with a bracket to secure the unit, but I have to make something different and a little bit more fitting! I could use the one supplied, but I want something chrome as opposed to just plain metal.

  10. Double check all connections for proper fitment, and ensure all clamps are tight.

  11. Start the car and just listen to the increase in air flow. Go for a drive and you will feel the difference!

And there you have it!  Looks like a lot of steps, but it's not really. It's actually pretty easy. It will take you longer to remove the stock parts then to install the new ones. Plan on using about 1 hour to complete the job.

Enjoy!
