Installing an Ingen RD1380P Cold Air Intake System
by TGartnale (difficulty level: medium)

These instructions are for this particular part- other intake systems
will vary in installation techniques. The most time consuming step is to expand the stock intake hole in the body. Make sure
all edges are filed and smooth and use a rubber gasket to avoid any metal to metal rubbing. The supplied gasket was too short
to cover the circumference. You will also have to remove the left edge of the battery tray. I used a rotary tool cutter.
Tools required
10mm wrench, socket 12 mm wrench, socket Flat head, phillips
screwdriver Pliers, needle nose(for body work) Rotary tool, drill, sanding discs, buffers
The Project
1. Disconnect negative lead first and remove battery.
2. Jack up left front of car, place jackstand under car and remove
left front tire.
3. Remove mudflap and inner fender liner.
4. Remove headlight- 2 plugs and 3 bolts. It will be snug on the
right top side. Pull out left side and tilt slightly to remove unit-don't yank.
5. Remove stock intake system- just follow along starting at intake
pipe, with headlight out, access to resonator box is easy. Instructions supplied with this CAI recommend the removal of the
bumper, but I found this is unneccesary.

6. With stock system out, begin expanding hole- I just bent the
lip up and over using a pliers and gnawed away until enough metal was removed. Rather crude but it worked. I used a drill
with rotating sanding discs and buffing wheels to smooth out the edges. I then painted the area after smoothing. You may find
another ingenious way to do this.

7. Once CAI pipe will fit through, begin assembling. Rubber piece
from throttle body to first pipe, 2 clamps, connect vacuam line last. Install rubber isolate mount in hole left by old filter
box. 2nd pipe should be brought up from the bottom, through the fender hole. Clamp to first pipe and bolt down on rubber mount.

8. Install K&N air filter with clamp inside fender well.

9. Make sure the battery tray has left edge removed as the battery
now sits more to the left.

10. Put everything back together.

CAUTION -
this unit may shorten the life of your engine- because you will always be flooring it, just to hear the GROWL of the
intake noise! To cover themselves, Injen advises not to drive in wet conditions, as to
not get water in the engine- check the club's discussion forums on this topic and decide if you want to go ahead.
