2. Unscrew the boot from the cover.
3. Remover the staples that hold the boot to the ring and the spring
clip at the top. (There is a rubber grommet which you need to keep)
4. Cut 3 triangles of fabric 6 inches wide at the bottom, 1¾ inches
at the top, and 7 inches high.
5. Cut 1 triangle 5 inches at the bottom, 1¾ inches at the top, and
7 inches high.
6. Sew the 3 similar triangles together and then sew the smaller one
to the 3, using ½ inch seams.
7. Spread the flaps created by the seams and sew them to the face of
each panel. (about ¼ inch from the seam)
8. Sew the unsewn edge of the smaller panel to the unsewn edge of the
larger panel on the other end. This will create a cone.
9. Spit the flaps of this seam and sew them to the face of the panels.
NOTE: This will be difficult!!! The boot will be inside
out. Take your time and go slow. Also, watch your fingers!!!
10. Replace the rubber grommet and spring clip and turn the boot right
side out.
11. Affix the boot to the ring placing the smaller panel on the shortest
side of the ring. This places the smallest panel towards the front, nearest the dash.
NOTE: I did this with a pneumatic staple gun. It is possible
to do this with hot glue. If you do it with hot glue, first clean the plastic surface with denatured alcohol.
Lay a thin bead of glue along one edge of the ring. Make sure the seams of the boot line up with the corners of the
ring. Glue one edge to the ring and let the glue cool before moving to another side. If you don't let the glue
cool, the boot will slide and be out of position, the glue will cool and you won't be able to move it. So, be sure to
let the glue cool first!!! Repeat these steps until the boot is glued all the way around. Do not use too much
glue or the ring and new boot will not fit back into the cover properly.
12. Reassemble the console cover
NOTE: If you have a Tiburon shifter, deduct 1 inch from
the height of the triangle panels. If you have a B&M or other short shifter, you must measure the distance from
the fulcrum to the top of the shifter and compare it to the length of the stock shifter. Whatever the difference, deduct
the same from the height of the panels.
Good Luck. This is a tough one... for experts only!
