NOTE:
This part did not come with instructions so I made it up as I went. There
may be a different
way to remove and install. Check out www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp

Tools Needed
Ratchet
and sockets
Needle Nose Pliers
Hammer
Punch
Grease
STEPS
1. Remove
drivers seat and wiring harnesses. (Not necessary)
2. Remove shifter knob
3. Remove console upper cover (Grab cover at bottom of lever boot at the back. Cup your fingers underneath the console upper cover and lift. The cover will POP off suddenly)
4. Remove cotter key from driver's side shifter cable and slide cable off the lever.
5. Remove the spring clips from both shifter cables with needle nose pliers.
6. Remove shifter assembly bolts (4 x 12mm bolts)
7. Lift assembly up and remove the second shifter cable from the bottom of the shifter. (Spread the spring clip arms apart simultaneously and slip off)
8. Remove assembly completely.
9. With a hammer and punch, drive the pin out of the rear of the housing. (I used an allen
wrench)
10. Remove the lock washer from the pin
at the front of the housing. (This is a bit tricky to do without damaging the washer.
If concerned, order a replacement when ordering the shifter)
11. Remove the original shifter.
12. Remove the nylon caps.
13. Install the nylon caps on new shifter.
14. Reinstall components in reverse order. (apply additional grease to components)
15. ENJOY!!

The throw
is much shorter but the feel is about the same. Maybe a little more effort, but likely in my mind. Although with the shorter
throw, there would be marginally more effort required. The upper shaft is about 1" shorter. I've never driven an Elantra
with the B&M shifter so I don't have a direct compare. I know people love them! But for a C-note less, I think many would
be satisfied with this one.
