Shark Racing Crank Pulley Install
by oiml8  (difficulty level: hard)

I changed my crank pulley to the Shark Racing aluminum one ($180). The install was simple if you have an impact wrench (needed to remove the bolt from the center of the pulley).

Steps:

1. Loosen power steering belt.

2. Jack and block car.

3. Remove passenger tire tire.

4. Remove plastic access panel in wheel well (10mm bolts).

5. Loosen a/c belt and remove it and the power steering belt.

6. Remove bolt from pulley w/impact wrench (22mm).

7. Tap pulley with hammer to loosen.

8. Pull pulley off (make sure the key stays in the slot).

9. Place aluminum pulley on the crankshaft, make sure the slot lines up with the key.

10. Take a block of wood which covers the entire face of the pulley and tap w/hammer lightly in the middle of the block. Do this just enough to get the pulley started on the crankshaft. Once it is started, replace the bolt and tighten very slowly (turn down the torque on the impact). NOTE: It will appear that it is not seated fully as compared to the steel one. IT IS. You will see when you begin to replace the belts. Everything will line up.

11. Replace the a/c belt then the power steering belt (you may have to purchase a smaller belt. SR sends the pulley with new belts, but one of mine was too big by one size.)

12. Replace access panel and tire.

I must say that I did not see a bunch of torque anywhere in the rev range. I know it is there but I just didn't feel it in the seat of my pants. However, with the a/c on, there is a huge difference in the available power. The a/c used to suck all the guts out of the motor, but with the pulley, it is much, much less.
