DIY Tiburon
Pedal Mod
by RRRGT (difficulty
level: easy)

Just
after joining the Elantra GT Club, I tasked myself with reading all of the posts that I could, both old and new, so I could
familiarize myself with what topics were being discussed. You can tell when there's
a Newbie on the forum, because you see old posts from six months ago that are suddenly resurrected.
While
reading the posts, I ran across one from our very own Founder and Father of the Elantra GT Club, showing off his new 03 Tib
Pedals. I read how easy they were to put on, and was very impressed with their
look and style. The fact that they were OEM and didn't require any drilling or
clamp-on, really sold me. I gave it some thought for a few weeks, and decided
to make my purchase through the GT Club's Parts Contact Rep. Greg, at West Broad Mitsubishi- Hyundai of Richmond,
Va. Well worth the money, and only took five minutes for the removal/installation
of the old/new pedals.
Installation
Tools Required:
Phillips Screwdriver
Installation:
- LEAVE
THE GAS PEDAL ON! THE NEW ONE WILL JUST SNAP RIGHT OVER IT!!! Holding the New Gas Pedal (the thin one) vertical, ensure the cutout notch is at the top. This will slip over the gas pedal post on the floorboard. Take
the new pedal, and position it over the old one. Gradually pull the rubber lip
on the back of the new one, all the way around the old pedal until its on firm.
- Remove the Old Brake Pedal, by pulling the rubber lip off from the back.
Try not to tear this, in case you may want to replace it in the future.
- Place
the New Brake Pedal over the brake pedal pad on the floorboard. Gradually pull
the rubber lip on the back of the new one, all the way around until it's on firm. (Note:
Manual transmission pedal kits include a clutch pedal pad and installation is identical.)
- PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE REMOVAL OF YOUR OLD FOOT REST PAD. To
remove the Old Foot Rest Pad, use the Phillips Screwdriver to remove the Phillips Screw at the top left of the Foot Pad. Grabbing the Foot Pad by the top and right side, pull straight UP, NOT OUT along the
firewall, in order to disengage the two clips from the bottom on back. Once the
clips are free, gently fold the Foot Pad to the left, to disengage from the kick panel on the left.
- LOOK AT YOUR NEW FOOT REST PAD CAREFULLY! Pay particular attention
to the notch on the left of your new pad. This will have to go under the plastic
left side kick panel under the dash first. Also, look at the two notched clips
at the bottom on back. You will need to install the New Foot Rest Pad by sliding
it down, so that the two clips catch under the floorboard frame in the two cutout holes.
Once the New Foot Rest Pad is seated in place, secure it with the new Phillips Screw that was provided with your pedals.

Congratulations! You just completed a DIY! Enjoy. If you have any questions,
please feel free to ask.
