19.2mm Rear Sway Bar Upgrade
by JPJR (difficulty level: easy)
The bigger 19.2mm sway bar is used on the '03 Tiburon
V6 GT from the factory and they fit on the Elantras with no modifications. This will help stiffen up the rear end, which will
help control body roll in the corners and prevent understeer. If you plan on doing any suspension modifications, I highly
recommend you try the sway bar first. You will be amazed at how well the GT handles with this one easy mod. Parts needed can
be purchased at a Hyundai dealer, as they are all Hyundai.
Parts Needed
'03 Tiburon 19.2mm rear sway bar
Rubber bushings for the 19.2mm bar
Metal endlinks
Notes: The
hole in the stock bushing is too small for the bigger sway bar. They can be forced to fit, but this will cause poor performance
from the sway bar as it will be too tight to move properly. The
GT comes with plastic endlinks
that will fit, but the metal ones have less flex and are stronger. It has not happened, but there is worry the plastic may
snap under the extra load.
Removal and Installation
1. Remove endlinks from strut towers (1 nut each side). 2. Remove brackets (2 nuts each side) and slide sway bar out.

3. Install metal endlinks to 19.2mm sway bar. 4. Put rubber
bushings and brackets on, aligning them with the paint marks.

5. Slide sway bar in place 6. Install nuts on the brackets (do
not tighten yet) 7. Install endlinks to struts and tighten (26-33 lb.ft.) 8. Tighten bracket nuts (13-19 lb.ft.)
If you raise the car for easier access, (not needed, but some prefer
to) do not tighten bolts until car is on flat level ground. This modification is easy to do and should only take about 15-30
minutes. Jacking up the car or removing the tires is not needed as all the nuts and parts can easily be reached with the car
on the ground. - JPJR
