Side Window Vent Visor Install
byF1Guy68 (difficulty
level: easy)

Most new vehicles these days feature an increase in aerodynamic
lines to the vehicles. As a result, not many manufacturers include run-off channels for water from the roof of the car
to elsewhere on the car as they did of days ago! On my Elantra GT the water runs off the roof and into the car when
the windows are open a crack for fresh air on a rainy day. The water conveniently "pools" right where the power window
switches are located. That spells trouble in the future and a costly replacement, should the switches and wiring corrode
or short, so it was time for me to take action. I went to my local Hyundai dealer and purchased the Side Window Vent
Visors @ the cost of $105.00 Cdn. They told me installation was easy and so it was, but I decided to contribute a DIY
article on them: Sorry, that I did not include step by step installation pictures, I was the only person around
when I installed them, and it's definitely a two handed job, so no free hand for the camera anyway! I have included
1 picture of the visors installed, but it's not the best, as the picture was taken in a dark underground parking lot.
Will send nice ones soon!

Installation of Side Window Vent Visors
Step 1 Unpack your visors and ensure you have everything.
You should have 4 visors, 1 alcohol wiping pad & 1 adhesive promoter (small tube with a felt like tip on the end) and
of course the instructions that we never read..hehehe Step 2 Determine
which visor goes on which door frame* and hold them against the door frame to familiarize yourself with just how they fit
and are positioned BEFORE you remove any of the adhesive backing. This is very important, because the adhesive tape
is very strong and if you position them wrong with the red backing tape removed, your in trouble, and will be taking a trip
to the dealer to buy another set. But if you have a good idea of the fit, this project is very easy! *
The visors are mounted on the door frame, line the top edge of the visors up with the top edge of the door frame. Step 3 Important!!! Ensure your mounting surface (door frame) is clean, and
free of any grease, oils or other inhibitors that would prevent proper adhesion. Once you are sure of this, it's time
to apply the adhesive promoter (the small tube with the felt like tip). Locate the dot on the side of the tube.
Press that dot hard, (but not too hard to break it in half) until you hear a "pop or crack" like noise. You are now
ready to apply this to the door frames. Work quickly in strokes and apply it only to the areas that the visors are actually
going to come into contact with the door frames! You will have enough for all 4 doors. Should you get this product
on areas other than required, use the alcohol pad to remove it! Let this adhesive promoter "set up" for 5 minutes before
applying the visors! Step 4 You are now ready to install
the visors! Start on the passenger side front door frame, and remove the red backing tape from the small mounting pad
and peel about 6 - 8 inches of red backing tape away from the rest of the visor. Carefully and accurately position the
visor into place and press firmly to secure it, gradually work down the door frame (towards the mirror) whilst peeling
the red backing tape off and pressing the visor onto the door frame. Once you have all the tape removed, continue to
press hard along the edges to ensure proper adhesion. Repeat this procedure for the driver's side front door frame.
When doing the rear door frames, the procedure is the same, but I have included a little tip for you as follows: Remove
the two short pieces of red backing tape first, and then peel 4 - 5 inches of the red backing tape back from the long strip.
Again, carefully and accurately position the visor into place before pressing firmly. Once they are in the correct position,
you can peel the rest of the red backing tape off, and press firmly all over to ensure proper adhesion of the visors! Note:
Be sure to match the gap between the visors equal to the gap of the doors, this will ensure they do not touch each other when
opening and closing the doors! Note: The adhesive strips require about 24 hours to cure, but you
can drive your car right after installation, but I would caution high speeds or inclement weather, car washing etc. if at
all possible for at least 24 hours! It sounds like a lot, but it's all very easy. I just wanted to emphasize
the caution required in some aspects of the installation. Have fun installing them, they really make a big difference
on the rainy days, and they look great too! - Richard (F1Guy98)
